Learn About Hardwood Flooring

A stunning addition to any home, hardwood flooring instantly adds value to your home. Timeless, elegant, and universally appealing, hardwood flooring has long been prized for its enduring beauty. It can successfully be incorporated into virtually any décor style, whether classic or contemporary, formal or casual. When properly installed and sealed, hardwood flooring requires minimal upkeep to maintain, making it an appealing option for generations of homeowners.

Types of Hardwood

Two types of hardwood flooring are currently offered on today’s market: solid and engineered. Available in both strips and planks, solid hardwood is comprised of a single piece of wood. While also made entire of wood, engineered hardwood is comprised of multiple layers, which are laminated together to resemble a solid piece of wood. Unlike solid hardwood, engineered hardwood can be used in places that are prone to moisture, including finished basements and bathrooms. Generally, engineered wood is more structurally stable than solid wood.

Many Varieties to Choose From

When it comes to hardwood, there’s truly something for everyone. From traditional woods like pine, oak, and maple, to exotic woods like mahogany and acacia, options are seemingly endless. For the environmentally-conscious, there even are sustainable cork floors. All are available in various colors and finishes: whether you prefer the distressed look of hand-scraped wood, or the high gloss of sanded pine.
